Harmonica

Harmonica

Chris has a harmonica problem.

Chris Markel playing blues harmonica on stage

Markel picked up the blues harmonica in early 2026 and practiced every day. These days he needs at least an hour a day, or he goes crazy.

He plays live around Oaxaca at least every other day, sometimes at more than one place in a night.

Oaxaca is full of musicians, and anyone with a guitar is a jam partner. Alone, he plays to a backing track on a bench in the Zócalo, near Santo Domingo or on a mountaintop.

He never leaves the house without five harmonicas: A, C, G, B♭ and F. His belt always has his Seydel Noble in the key of A.
